Entry to St Columba’s is by a combination of Entry Test, Interview and, where applicable, a report from the applicant’s previous school.
For Nursery, Prep and early Junior classes a child’s maturity plays an important part in the assessment. Entrance to Nursery/Prep and J1 is by informal assessment. Children are invited to visit the School in small groups. The assessment takes place in a playroom and all staff are sympathetic to the age and stage of the child. We are looking for children who are willing to cooperate and respond to the other children. We are assessing children for their readiness to progress with pre-language and numeracy skills.
Students accepted into Prep do not automatically move in to J1 but are assessed in the same manner as all other J1 applicants. However, when a student is accepted into J1, or above, they will generally be eligible to move into the Senior School without further assessment.
Some preference in applications is given to siblings of students already in the School or those with strong family connections to St Columba’s. The main point of entry for the Senior School is at Transitus stage (Primary 7). A number of bursary places, ranging from 10-100% of fees, are available for new applicants entering Transitus, SV to study Highers and SVI to study Advanced Highers.
