Junior School, like Senior School, is fairly traditionally structured, with whole class, group and individual teaching being the main method of imparting knowledge.
Close liaison exists between the Junior and Senior School.
At St. Columba’s we offer traditional values combined with a modern curriculum which equips children with the skills necessary for living and learning in the 21st Century. We believe that school should provide an environment where each child is valued and where standards of effort and participation are expected.
There are two parallel classes in each year group from J1-J6 and maximum class sizes are 24. Classes are taught using whole class, group and individual methods. A sound grounding is provided in Maths, English and Environmental Studies with French, Music and Physical Education being taught by specialists. Children are encouraged to be active participants in their learning by developing sound thinking skills.
Computers are widely used in school and are seen as an integral tool for learning. Each class has access to laptops to allow for further flexibility.
A wide variety of extra curricular activities are offered, including sports, music, chess and computer clubs.
Our aim is to develop children who are confident and curious, able to take initiatives and to see beyond the obvious.
