Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is organised by Mrs Carole Marr MBE, Head of Outdoor Education.  The Scheme is a structured programme of activities for pupils from Third Year upwards and comprises four areas:

  • Service
  • Skill
  • Physical recreation
  • Expedition

There are three levels:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

There is an additional Residential Project at Gold level.

Pupils get a tremendous sense of achievement through participating in the Award Scheme.  It involves a substantial level of commitment which increases the further a pupil progresses.  Good behaviour and a willingness to work as part of a team are essential.

Safety is paramount for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.  Pupils also learn about other aspects of safety as part of their regular training.  Although pupils are on their own during the expedition, they are carefully monitored and supervised.

From the outset parents and pupils should be aware that it is a requirement of  participation in the Duke of Edinburghs scheme that pupils attend all safety and First Aid courses.

An information evening is arranged at the beginning of the session for SIII pupils and their parents.

Full details of the Award scheme can be obtained at http://www.theaward.org
