Welcome to St Columba’s School.  Founded in 1897, St Columba’s is an HMC, non-denominational independent day school for pupils aged 3 to 18.  Initially established as a school for girls, it has been co-educational since 1982 with equal numbers of boys and girls.  The current roll is just over 720 with approximately 380 pupils in Junior School and 340 pupils in Senior School.

St Columba’s is situated in the small rural community of Kilmacolm, surrounded by delightful countryside and located only 7 miles from Glasgow Airport.  It has an excellent academic record with a consistently high ranking in league tables and nearly all students go on to university.  However, just as important as academic excellence are the personal attributes and qualities developed within the pupils.  The ultimate goal is to produce self-confident, mature individuals, able to balance personal fulfilment with consideration for others and to play a full role in society.

The School boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere.  Pupils are direct, quietly self confident and articulate - they are impressive young people.  The staff is dedicated and thoroughly professional.  They nurture in our pupils such values, as loyalty, responsibility, service, duty and integrity.  A distinguishing feature of St Columba’s is the intimacy of the atmosphere - despite the challenges of the modern curriculum, the staff know all the schools pupils by name.

Music is strong; there are pipe bands, orchestras and choirs.  There is good participation in debating, drama and art and a wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered.  The School has an excellent record in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

Facilities
The Junior and Senior School buildings and sports facilities are located within a quarter of a mile radius of each other.  Over the past decade major investments have resulted in St Columba’s being extremely well equipped and resourced.  The Senior School is on the cusp of a major new building project, currently undergoing planning consent, which will bring new science laboratories, new accommodation for the Mathematics & ICT and Humanities Faculties in addition to a new School entrance and reception area.

Sports facilities include a gym area for gymnastics and dance, large purpose built sports hall including fitness suite, all-weather floodlit hockey/tennis ground, access to three rugby pitches and a large playing field used for athletics and cross country running.

The School has a dedicated transport service and an after school care facility.

You are most welcome to visit the School to see for yourself all that we may have to offer your child.
