Head of Junior School
Dear Parent
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Alison Duncan as Head of Junior School in succession to Mrs Cook.
Mrs Duncan was selected from a very strong field of candidates which included Heads and Deputes with substantial experience in independent schools. The selection process was rigorous and included a presentation and interview, taking an assembly, leading a discussion group of pupils and the completion of a desktop exercise. Colin McClatchie (Chairman of Governors), Dr Aileen Findlay (Vice Chairman of Governors and Chairman of the Education Committee), John Broadfoot (Governor and former Rector of Kelvinside Academy) and I formed the selection panel. Mrs Duncan was the unanimous choice of everyone involved in the process.
Mrs Duncan joined St Columba's as Depute Head of Junior School in August 2011 from The Mary Erskine & Stewart's Melville Junior School where she held the post of Head of Year. She is an honours graduate in Modern Languages from the University of St Andrews and was awarded the Scottish Qualification for Headship in 2011.
The panel was at one in its conclusion that Mrs Duncan has the qualifications, personal attributes, qualities and experience to lead the Junior School at this important time in its development. I know you will join with me in offering her our warmest congratulations.
Yours sincerely
David Girdwood
