Silver Tablet Concert 2009

Four talented pupils competed for the Silver Tablet.  Fraser Dunlop, Kirsty Wilson, Emily-Jayne Russell and Scott Dickson delighted the audience with a varied programme, which included Whatever Happened to Jazz? by Deirdre Cartwright, Three Fantastic Dances by Shostakovich and Boogie Woogie Etude by Morton Gould.

Established in 1917, the prize celebrates the best of musical talent from the Senior School and performers are chosen from students who have attained a minimum standard of Associated Board Grade 8. The adjudicators, Mr Ian McCrorie and Mrs Olive McCrorie, praised the quality of the technical skill, interpretation and the stamina of the performers. Mr McCrorie said that "at times it was difficult to remember that these were not professional musicians".

This year the Silver Tablet was awarded to Scott Dickson on piano.  Scott's musical talent is recognised throughout the School community; if the piano in the School hall is being played or Chopin is echoing through the Cargill Building, the chances are Scott is at the keys. A multi-talented musician, Scott is not only an exceptional pianist, but also an accomplished organist and brass player.

The concert is the culmination of many months of dedication, hard work and commitment. The Director of Music, Ms Yvonne Carey, said each pupil performing for the Silver Tablet had made a huge contribution to the musical life of the School and she was extremely proud of their achievements.
