Members of the Pipe Band were on duty yesterday at a number of Remembrance Day events and braved the ‘dreich’ conditions to put on much-appreciated performances.

Firstly, at 10am five of our younger pipers, who are also members of the local scout group, led a small parade from Birkmyre Park to the Old Kirk.

At 11am Pipe Sergeant Gavin Findlay was the lone piper at the memorial to the Argylls in the grounds of Finlaystone Estate.  At the same time, Pipe Major Jack Guthrie carried out this duty for a second gathering of the Argylls at the Cairn Memorial in Port Glasgow.

Then at midday the full band, with four new members making their first public performance, once again led the Port Glasgow Remembrance Day Parade and then at the end of the memorial service at the town’s Cenotaph took part in the wreath-laying ceremony.
