26th February 2018

3 pipers and 7 chanter players from St Columba’s had a very successful day competing at the annual National Piping Centre’s Junior Solo competition in Glasgow on Saturday 24th February.  All pupils played extremely well with many playing in two categories.  The results are as follows:-

Chanter - Slow Air:
2nd Angus Scott (SI)
4th Alexander Drysdale-Dykes (SI)
5th Cayla Winter-Wright (SI)

Chanter - March:
1st Angus Scott
Angus Scott’s combined result made him overall champion for the chanter events, a fantastic achievement. Also competing were Harry Devlin (J5), Charlie Devlin (J6), Finn Anderson (J6) and Samuel Craig (SII).

U15 Bagpipes - Piobaireachd Ground:
1st Euan Lindsay (Trans)
This was Euan’s first competition on pipes after recently starting to learn piobaireachd last term, therefore an outstanding achievement.  Euan was also one of the youngest competitors in the event, with a totally of 18 pipers competing.
Euan, Archie Sandground (SIII) and Finlay Gray (SII) also competed in a large entry of 34 pipers in the U15 March and the U15 Strathspey and Reel.

It was a great experience for our young pipers and chanter players performing in one of the major national junior solo contests of the year.
A full list of the results can be found here.
