Congratulations to pupils at St Columba’s celebrating after another year of excellent examination results. Results across the board were strong, reinforcing the School’s tradition of fostering academic excellence.

This year’s SQA results have been very successful with a pass rate of 97.3% at National 5 and an excellent 78.6% at grade A. This is in sharp contrast to the national rate that has fallen to 77.4% from 79.5% in previous years. This year the pupils gained the highest proportion ever of A Band 1 at 40%! Amongst high-performing departments, Spanish, Music and Art gained 100% A grades.

Higher results were very strong indeed with 93.5% pass rate. In contrast, nationally the Higher pass rate has shown an ongoing decline to 76.8%.

56.4% of St Columba’s pupils achieved As at Higher and the Advanced Higher pass rate was 86.7%.

The Rector said “I am delighted for all our pupils who have worked hard and gained the results that they wished for - and for the hard-working, dedicated teachers who have generated interest, enthusiasm and curiosity in learning. I am particularly encouraged by the Higher pass rates, which are all the more impressive given that we have an open entry policy and present pupils for a significantly higher number of Highers (averaging around five per pupil) than many schools.

“The rounded nature of our School is evident in the record number of sports internationalists, record number of entries and awards achieved for the Duke of Edinburgh award and outstanding musical, debating and public speaking events. I congratulate all pupils across the years who have achieved their very best.”
