Yesterday SII participated in a Rapid Response Engineering Challenge to help them understand the work of civil engineers, particularly in the event of a disaster. Alison Ward from ICE introduced the challenge which was built around a hurricane in Haiti.
Pupils had time in the morning planning, investigating and reporting on the disaster before ‘flying out’ in the afternoon. They had to work in groups as civil engineers to build shelters, negotiate water transportation, construct communication towers and filter water.
