Pupils were extended an invitation to join the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce at the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) in Inchinnan on the morning of Tuesday 5th March. This event was restricted to businesses who are members of the Chamber and so for the pupils who attended it was a real privilege. The focus of this exclusive event was to explore innovation in manufacturing technologies at University of Strathclyde’s state-of-the-art lab and research centre. Our pupils were given the opportunity to see how technology is used to support businesses. The morning included a tour of workshops and laboratories. It also provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to network with local business leaders.

They heard first-hand the process by which businesses take ideas from the research stages to manufacturing, how projects are funded, and developments in the pipe line in engineering and manufacturing in Renfrewshire. They enjoyed presentations from a number of key figures in the industry and were privy to the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland’s plans for ‘a factory of the future’ that is to be built on the Clyde adjacent to the AFRC.
