The Easter break may have been an opportunity to rest for some of us, but for some of our musical pupils, it was an opportunity to practise and perform! A number of pupils took part in prestigious national choirs and orchestras: Cara E-M, SIII, attended the National Youth Choir of Scotland’s Girls’ Choir and both Lucy C (SII) and Hannah M (SIII) sang in the National Youth Choir of Scotland’s Girls’ Training Choir. An invaluable experience for all three pupils.

Meanwhile, Emily B, Callum H and Sasha Charter (SI) performed with NYOS Junior Orchestra at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. In addition, Emily B attended - at the tender age of 12 no less! – a residential with The National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain at Port Regis.

As per a previous post, St Columba’s members of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland’s Senior Orchestra performed at the City Halls in Glasgow this Easter. Hannah, Rory and Laura did the school proud, as did former pupil Will Fleming (French horn). The repertoire performed was extremely challenging and ranged from Shostakovich to Glazunov.

In other national music news, we are delighted to announce that Stephanie B in SVI will participate in National Youth Choir of Scotland’s Main Choir and Sarah S in SV in the Training Choir this July.

We are also pleased to share the news that Isla Macpherson SV, has been offered a place to study clarinet at RCS Junior Department on Saturday mornings. Isla will commence tuition in September.
