Current Developments

We are proud that St Columba’s has been at the heart of the Kilmacolm community for over 110 years and has developed to become one of Scotland’s leading independent schools.  The Governors and staff are focused on the development and progression of the School to build on the successes of recent years.

A key strategic issue facing the School at present is the enhancement of Senior School facilities to ensure that we continue to offer a first class learning environment.  Ideally we would like to have new teaching accommodation for the Science, Mathematics and English faculties which will then free up space within the main building to allow Transitus pupils to return to Senior School, provide improved teaching accomodation, additional teacher bases and social areas for pupils.

Senior School Extension

Last year St Columba’s School entered into a Heads of Terms agreement with the Trustees of Duchal Estate for the option to purchase land adjacent to Gryffe Road.

The Board of Governors has recently lodged with Inverclyde Council a notice of their intention to submit an application for planning permission in principle for the development of educational facilities within the grounds of Milton Wood, opposite the rear of the Senior School on Gryffe Road.

As part of the pre-application consultation process, and to inform the proposals, a public exhibition was held in Kilmacolm Community Centre.  The visuals and update can be viewed below.

Development Update

To ensure that the local community is briefed we meet with Kilmacolm Community Council, Kilmacolm Civic Trust, neighbours of the Senior School and local Councillors.  We publish information in The Advertizer and on this page of the school website - update letters from the Chairman are listed below.

We hope to have found a promising route forward for the Senior School extension.  If you have any feedback please contact the School’s Head of Marketing & Development, Nichola McKay at nmckay@st-columbas.org.
