St Columba's Goes Green
It’s official - St Columba’s is green. The Green Flag award is the top level of award in the Eco-Schools programme. Head of Guidance, Vicky Reilly said, “We are delighted to have attained this prestigious award.  A dedicated group of pupils from Nursery to SVI has worked extremely hard throughout the year towards achieving this goal.  Through their efforts, as well as classroom teaching, awareness of environmental issues has increased across the whole school community.  We hope to build on our success with future initiatives and developments which will be of benefit to the local area.  We are grateful for the help and support of parents, staff and pupils in all our endeavours.'

Junior School Gardening Club
In May some of the Junior 4 Gardening Club and their parents and grandparents gave up their time to plant new flowers and shrubs in the grounds of the Junior School. The main focus of their efforts was the bed outside the new Early Years building and everyone worked very hard to plant a colourful array of shrubs. Some apple trees were also planted and the end result is stunning.

Senior School also lent a hand and thanks to Mr Smith and his team of Peter Hargreaves, Sam Conn  and Emma Matthews. They worked extremely hard moving tonnes of topsoil from the back gate into new raised beds outside the Junior 2 classroom.Thankfully it was a beautiful evening and refreshments were served with the children making sure all the helpers were well looked after.

Many thanks to everyone who gave up their time and particular thanks to Mr Harry Murdoch for creating the design and sourcing the plants for us.
