Nursery & Preparatory
This department provides a happy and stimulating environment for children in their Pre School years.
The Nursery is for children who will be 3 between August and February of the school year and meets every afternoon, apart from Thursday. The class has up to 14 children and these children are guaranteed a place in Preparatory the following year.
The Preparatory class has up to 24 children and progression into Junior 1 is by satisfying the requirements of the Entrance Assessment which is held in January of the Pre School year.
Both classes meet in a large well equipped classroom and have access to the facilities within the Junior School. They also have a contained area of the playground, although they make extensive use of all the grounds within the Junior School. The Preparatory class is taught by a teacher who specialises in the Early Years. They also have PE, French and Music from specialist staff.
The children are encouraged to develop numeracy and literacy skills through play. There is an emphasis on developing self esteem, confidence and social skills through interactive learning.
The children access the curriculum through a variety of thematic approaches and this is developed by using the local environment and taking the children further afield to places such as Finlaystone Estate and Pollok Park.
