What is the Parent Council and what is its function?

The Parent Council comprises a group of parents and guardians, elected to promote the advancement of education, which is achieved by:

  • promoting close co-operation and communication between parents and the School
  • studying and discussing matters of mutual interest relating to the education and welfare of pupils
  • engaging in activities which support and advance the education of pupils attending the School
  • raising funds for the benefit of the School, the children attending the School, and charities through social events
  • organising social events to enrich the experience of parents, pupils and other members of the school community

The Parent Council represents all parents and guardians and acts to bring parents together, organise social events and help fund activities and causes for the benefit of children throughout the School.

Recent activity

This year, the Parent Council, which is chaired by Junior School parent, Mrs Davidson, has been involved in a number of projects. The new Junior School Library, which was formally opened by Mrs Davidson and pupil librarians in November 2022, is perhaps the most notable of these developments. This brand new, fully accessible space has become a hive of activity - a safe, comfortable space for children to delve into the world of literature. We are grateful to the Parent Council for providing the furniture and lots of fabulous new books for our pupils to enjoy!

Discos are a mainstay in the school calendar, much anticipated by pupils and aspiring Senior VI DJs. Members of the Parent Council ran the Junior School Halloween discos in 2022 and our pupils danced and sang to their hearts' content!

Get involved!

The Parent Council's Annual General Meeting is held each autumn to report on progress and achievements throughout the year and to elect members who serve on the Council for a period of three years. All parents are informed of the date and time of the AGM and are more than welcome to attend.

Furthermore, the Council meets with the Rector on a quarterly basis.
