Educational excellence lies at the heart of St Columba’s School. Our vision is to ensure that St Columba’s remains at the forefront of education, today and in the future. It is vital to provide first class facilities for future learning and development, enabling every child at School to fulfil his or her potential.
We officially opened the new extension on Wednesday 9th November with guest of honour Eleanor Laing MP, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and a former pupil of St Columba’s. The new Girdwood Building, named in honour of our Rector, Mr David Girdwood, who will retire at the end of session 2016-17, comprises 13 new classrooms, a new library, a guidance suite, common rooms, additional social and recreational space for pupils, as well as improved teacher preparation areas. Space within the original building will be rezoned to allow faculties to be grouped together by discipline and to allow the creation of a new drama studio.
This capital development project represents the most significant upgrading of the School campus in our 119 year history.
You can find more photos of the opening and of the Girdwood Building on flickr.
