1st XV Victorious at Murrayfield

On Wednesday 4th December, the St Columba’s 1st XV travelled to Edinburgh to take on Queen Victoria School, Dunblane (QVS) in the final of the Scottish Rugby U18s Bowl at Murrayfield. It was the first time in eight years that they had made it to the final of this competition and the excitement was palpable throughout the school in the run up to the big day.

The school was keen for as many pupils as possible to be able to show their support and attend the match, but with their award-winning Pipe Band, who were invited to perform on the pitch before the match, and over 200 supporters to transport to Edinburgh, the logistics were difficult. Thankfully McGill’s Buses came forward to ensure no-one missed out on the tremendous occasion.

Despite heavy rainfall making play more challenging, and strong opposition from QVS, the St Columba’s side emerged victorious with the final score 31-14. Rory McL (SVI) was named Man of the Match. This well-deserved win was not only testament to the hard work and dedication of both the players and coaches, but also showcased St Columba’s community spirit at its very best.
