On March 5th seven of our musicians gathered to compete in the St Columba’s Heat of the Scottish Young Musician Solo Performer of the Year competition. This nationwide competition aims to discover the brightest new musical talent in Scotland with the winner receiving expert guidance from industry experts, as well as recording and performance opportunities.
This was a wonderful evening with a varied programme which showcased the wealth of musical talent within our school. The programme for the evening was as follows:

After enjoying the incredible performances from our competitors, it was time for the toughest part of the evening – choosing a winner.
We were delighted to be joined by adjudicator, Mr Greg McGonigal, the Head of Music and Art at Notre Dame High School in Greenock, where he leads a thriving department committed to fostering creativity and musical excellence. In his remarks, Greg gave each of the performers detailed and constructive feedback and acknowledged how difficult it was to come to a final decision. Ultimately, he decided upon two runners up and one overall winner.

Anastazja M (SIV)
