St Columba’s hosted the annual Senior School Prizegiving at Kilmacolm Parish Church on Friday 26th June. This special occasion provided a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on the academic, musical, sporting and personal achievements of our pupils. It is also a way in which we celebrate the end of an era, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our Senior VI leavers.
This year marked the first time St Columba’s School has hosted its annual prizegiving in Kilmacolm Parish Church, following the closure of St Columba Church where the event had traditionally been held. The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Reverend Bryan Kerr, who greeted the school community in this new setting.
As well as hearing speeches from the Chair of Governors Dr Mairi Jackson and Rector Mrs Victoria Reilly, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mr Richard Orr, CEO, Winning Scotland. Richard was appointed CEO in January, having been instrumental in Winning Scotland’s growth and success over the last four years. His leadership has been characterised by a strong focus on empowering young people and improving the systems within which they grow up.
In her address, Mrs Reilly highlighted the strength of the school community and thanked everyone for the part that they play in the success of the school. She finished with a special mention to the Senior VI leavers, “I send you my very best wishes for the future. The education and wider experiences you have had at St Columba’s have prepared you well – you are all stars – go into this next chapter ready to embrace opportunities and see adventure and possibility in the challenges that will no doubt come along because to paraphrase our school show High School Musical, ‘once you see there’s a chance you have, please take it – get to it – it’s time to show the world’.”
The exceptional musical talent of our pupils was showcased throughout the ceremony, with performances by the Orchestra, Trad Band, Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Band and the Senior Choirs.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to and attended our Senior School Prizegiving. Congratulations to our prizewinners and to all of our pupils for your hard work, dedication and achievements this year.
