We are delighted to announce that St Columba’s has been commended in the Student Wellbeing category of the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026. This marks the second consecutive year that our Pastoral Care provision has been recognised nationally, highlighting the dedication of our staff and pupils in creating a supportive, nurturing and inclusive school community.
This recognition is particularly meaningful following our first full year as a single-campus school. While relocating our Junior School to the Senior School site presented significant logistical challenges, it also created an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen our culture of wellbeing and connection across the whole school.
Bringing our younger and older pupils together on one campus has fostered stronger relationships and a greater sense of belonging. Every day, these connections can be seen in action: Senior School playground mentors leading active play sessions for Junior pupils, Senior VI Mental Health Ambassadors delivering assemblies across the school, and pupils of all ages engaging with and supporting one another. These initiatives have helped cultivate a genuine sense of community where every child feels seen, valued and supported.
At St Columba’s, we believe that wellbeing is the foundation of education. Our approach to Pastoral Care is proactive and preventative, equipping young people with the resilience and confidence they need to navigate life’s challenges. Rather than simply responding to difficulties when they arise, we focus on empowering pupils with the skills and support networks that enable them to thrive.
We are incredibly proud that our commitment to student wellbeing is woven into every aspect of school life and honoured to see this recognised on a national stage.
The Independent Schools of the Year Awards
The Independent Schools of the Year Awards, organised by Independent School Parent magazine, celebrate excellence and innovation across the independent education sector. With a record number of entries this year, we are thrilled to have received this commendation.
Commenting on this year’s awards, Dr Helen Wright, Chair of the Judging Panel, said:

Already, it is clear that the independent sector remains strong in spirit and outcomes, and as the judging process moves into its next phase, the judges look forward enormously to selecting and celebrating extraordinary practice.”
Finalists will be announced on 10 September, with winners revealed at the awards ceremony on 14 October.
This commendation is a wonderful recognition of the strength of our school community, and reinforces our belief that when wellbeing is prioritised, young people flourish both personally and academically. We look forward to continuing to review, develop and enhance our pastoral care programmes, ensuring every pupil at St Columba’s feels supported and empowered to achieve their full potential.
