Many congratulations go to Emily B (SV) who won the prestigious Gilbert Innes Prize for Woodwind at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Friday 24th February. She was playing saxophone - her second instrument - making this achievement all the more impressive.

On the evening, she was up against 18 other people, all playing to an exceptionally high standard, many of whom were older than she is, and some having just secured scholarships to study at undergraduate level at major London conservatoires.

The adjudicator, Helen Brew, Associate Principal Flute at Royal Scottish National Orchestra (pictured below with Emily) said the following about her performance:

“From the second you started playing you were telling me a story. You breathed the music wonderfully! Fantastic technical mastery and you sang through it all. Fantastic communication and connection with us. I smiled my way through this, thank you.“

We are all incredibly proud our you, Emily.
