7th June 2023

Yesterday evening, a small but supportive audience gathered in the Cargill Building for the 2023 Silver Tablet.

Pianist Gregor C and vocalist Lucy C (both SVI) each performed a 15 minute programme showcasing their musical talents.

Gregor, who has been learning piano with Mrs Ward since Junior 3, selected a varied programme including pieces by Bartok and Debussy. Meanwhile Lucy, a stalwart member of St Columba's choirs over the years, transported us from where coral lies to the piazza with her selection.

Charged with making the difficult decision of who would win the coveted Silver Tablet was Dr Gordon Munro, Director of Music at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire, who we were delighted to welcome back to the school.

Before Dr Munro announced the winner, the audience were treated to a performance by Transitus saxophonist Keelan M - a potential 2029 Silver Tablet competitor. Keelan, who has only been playing saxophone since August, played with great musicality and confidence. Definitely one to look out for in the future!

It was then over to Dr Munro to announced the winner.

The winner of the Silver Tablet 2023 is GREGOR C!

Well done to both Gregor, Lucy and Keelan for their wonderful performances.

Our thanks go to Dr Munro for giving up his time and taking on the unenviable task of choosing a winner and to the Music Department for organising such a fabulous celebration of the musical talent within St Columba's
