Before half term, some of the team from our new catering company Thomas Franks spent a day with us, educating us all about nutrition and wellbeing.

Thomas Franks, who took over the catering at St Columba's in October, believes that "food is at the heart of school life" and they work with their in-house qualified Nutritionist to create bespoke menus to support the development of our pupils. They also work closely with schools to promote healthy eating through educational initiatives and school visits.

In Junior School, Junior 1 and 3 got to spend some time with Nutritionist, Christine, who helped them to understand the different food groups - and even left them some delicious beetroot brownies to sample.
Junior 5 and 6, as well as the SII and SIII girls, listened to a talk by Amy Costello, who is a hockey player for Team GB as well as a Thomas Franks ambassador. Amy's talk about mental health and the importance of nutrition was inspirational and gave her audiences lots to think about.
Meanwhile, up at Senior School, pupils had great fun taking part in the Smoothie Challenge at lunchtime, where they had to use pedal power to blend a range of fresh fruit and vegetables into delicious smoothies, which they definitely enjoyed getting to sample! Mrs Reilly even got in on the action.
