Matthew Downie, SI, started with the Tei Karate Association just before his 6th birthday and in 2017 successfully passed the 1st Dan Black Belt Grading, attaining joint highest marks with another cadet. This made him the youngest Tei Karate student to achieve his black belt in Scotland. Matthew received an award at Christmas for ‘Most Improved Student’ for the association overall, in recognition of his commitment and achievements at his age.
