The first annual art exhibition celebrating the success of our young artists took place on Monday, 3rd February 2020.

The work of 2019, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher was on display with a special feature, showcasing Katya Ballantyne’s progression through all three courses culminating in her Advanced Higher work. Based on this, she won a place at Glasgow School of Art.

As well as the artwork, we were entertained by St Columba’s young musicians and a splendid evening was had by all.

There was a very good turnout by parents, grandparents, other family, and art teachers from other schools, governors and friends.

The young artists enjoyed being in the spotlight and speaking to the visitors about their work.

Everyone enjoyed a very successful event and are looking forward to next year’s exhibition.

National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher 2017 - 2019

Katya Ballantyne

Now studying at Glasgow School of Art, Katya studied Art and Design at all levels during her time at St Columba’s School.

As an SV pupil Katya produced her Expressive folio in response to her chosen theme of Japanese culture. Here Katya honed her media-handling skills and began to develop her own sense of composition and style. As she embarked on the Advanced Higher course we see her sense of composition and colour mature, resulting in an exciting body of work including her experimental sculptures. The Advanced Higher portfolio was an intrinsic part of her portfolio that secured her place at the prestigious GSA.
