We are delighted that Honorary President of St Columba’s and Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Renfrewshire, Mr Guy Clark, has recently been awarded a CVO in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

As Lord-Lieutenant, his first and foremost duty is to uphold the dignity of the Crown. He seeks to encourage a spirit of co-operation in the voluntary services and benevolent organisations and takes an active interest in the business, industrial and social life of Renfrewshire.

History of Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO)

By 1896, prime ministers and governments had increased their influence over the distribution of awards and had gained almost total control of the system. Therefore, Queen Victoria instituted The Royal Victorian Order as a personal award for services performed on her behalf.

Today this honour is still awarded in recognition of services to the royal family. The ranks are Knight or Dame Grand Cross (GCVO), Knight or Dame Commander (KCVO or DCVO), Commander (CVO), Lieutenant (LVO) and Member (MVO).

We are thrilled that Mr Guy Clark’s commitment and dedication to the local community has been recognised on such a platform.
