All were warmly welcomed to Birkmyre Park on the afternoon of 8th September to celebrate our Late Summer Fete. This entirely charitable event saw stalls run by the Rotary Club, Kilmacolm Amateur Dramatic Society, Girl Guides and Eileen MacCallum Trust.
In a rare window of glorious September sunshine, crowds gathered to help raise money for a range of different charities including Cancer Research and Glasgow Disabled Scouts. Raising a grand total of £1860.48!
1. Kilallan - (Abbie’s Sparkle) £499.89
2. Strathgryffe - (Beatson Cancer Charity) £493.85
3. Duchal - (Courseford Disabled Scouts) £445.74
4. Craigmarloch - (Breast Cancer UK) £421.00
Activities on offer were innovative and pupil led. Highlights included Pooches in the Park, a mini Crufts event that saw owners enter their dogs in different rounds including ‘best lookalike’ and ‘waggiest tail’. The Parents’Association, with pupil support, launched St Columba’s first ‘Mini Tough Mudder’ obstacle course and a Tennis Tournament in which prizes were awarded for the longest rally. Infants were delighted by the appearance of Bookbug, the increasingly popular Scottish Book Trust character, and enjoyed an afternoon of arts and crafts and face painting.
The highlight of the event was St Columba’s Pipe Band who awed the parents, pupils and local residents with their precision and passion. Ian Downie, Chair of the Parents' Association, said, “Thanks to everyone who came along - it was fantastic to see such a great turn out and the community come together to celebrate the start of a new school year. We had a great time and we hope you did too.”
Congratulations to all winners!
