The Board of Governors of St Columba’s School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Andrea Angus as Rector in succession to Mr David Girdwood, who will retire at the end of the 2016-2017 session.

Mrs Angus is currently Head of Senior School at Robert Gordon’s College in Aberdeen.  In this role she has had oversight of the day to day running of the Senior School and been responsible for formulating and implementing whole school strategy and policy.  Prior to joining Robert Gordon’s, Mrs Angus spent 12 years in senior roles at The Mary Erskine School, Edinburgh where she was Head of Mathematics and then Director of Studies, as well as a member of the Senior Management Team.  Mrs Angus is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Wales, Cardiff.

Mr Girdwood will retire at the end of next session and Mrs Angus will remain in her current role until she leaves to take up her position at St Columba’s in August 2017.

Mrs Angus said: “I am delighted that I will have the opportunity to be Rector of St Columba’s, which has an excellent reputation, sets extremely high standards of academic attainment and is a school that I have long since admired.  I look forward to building upon all that has been achieved to date and to leading the School to further success in the future.”

Mr Calum Paterson, Chairman of the Board of Governors at St Columba’s, said: “The School has been very successful under Mr Girdwood and I am confident that, with the appointment of Mrs Angus, St Columba's will continue to develop at the forefront of Scottish education in the years ahead.”
