Three pupils from Senior I to III have received their certificates after competing in the Scottish Mathematical Challenge

Congratulations to a number of pupils from the senior school who have also received certificates from the 2021 Scottish Mathematical Challenge. Ewan S, Senior III, Fraser R, Senior II and Kirsty S, Senior I, all gained awards after competing in the middle division of the competition.

Ordinarily the  Scottish Mathematical Challenge would award participants with their prizes during an official ceremony, however much like last year these events have been restricted. Instead competing schools received and awarded certificates and mugs to the top winning pupils.

Fraser R received Bronze for his entry into the competition, alongside Kirsty S and Ewan S who both were awarded Silver for their hard work.

The Mathematical challenge is a national problem-solving competition, held annually by the Scottish Mathematical Council. The challenge is aimed at individual pupils in secondary schools or the upper year groups of Primary School.

The mathematical challenge awards marks for explanations and reasoning alongside answers, encouraging pupils to demonstrate their problem-solving skills and mathematical ability. The competition is divided into separate divisions for each year group. Pupils are tasked to complete three sets of questions and challenges, with each set increasing in difficulty than the challenge prior.

Well done to all those involved with the challenge.
