Session 20/21

The Gilbert Murray Classics competition has quickly become a staple in the St Columba's calendar, as each year several Senior School classicists gain great success. The competition is hosted by the Glasgow and West branch of 'The Classical Association of Scotland', and is open to pupils from Scottish schools in Junior 6 to Senior VI. Each year a number of essay topics are released tailored to each year group. The results of this session's competition were announced just before the end of the summer term with some of our classicists doing incredibly well. A certificate for an excellent contribution was awarded to Orla M -G (Then SVI) for her re-imagining of a letter from Ovid's Heroides for the modern age.

Certificates (for outstanding contributions) and prizes were also awarded, to Orla O (current SIII) for designing a brochure advertising the ancient Greek Olympic Games, and to Hilary E-M (Current SVI) for re-imagining the story of Agamemnon for the modern age. This year's entry also marks a hat-trick for Hilary, with significant success in this competition for three years running!

A huge congratulations to all the pupils involved, we are delighted to be able to share excerpts of their outstanding work below.
