Our Early Years have had a very busy start to their term!

Last week the children enjoyed a ‘mindful Monday. This included reading all about the ‘selfish crocodile’ who learnt the importance of sharing and being kind to their friends.

The children also shared some relaxation time, while making and looking at some sensory bottles. They learned about taking time to relax and just observe the glitter falling from the top to the bottom of the bottle, this allowed for a quiet time of reflection and spending time with their friends.

This is a theme that we continue to encourage, by observing the children’s health and well-being and is underpinned by their right to play and rest (article 31, UNCRC,)

Early years children have also been exploring important skills like cooking and counting. The children picked apples from one of the children’s gardens and decided that they would make a delicious apple pie while learning about an apple life cycle! An important part of cooking is making sure to wash your hands before preparing food. The children also used glitter to learn about germs, experimenting to see if soap and water would get rid of them.

Early Years have also been learning about number values and recognition of numbers from 0-10. They have been reinforcing what they have learnt by collecting objects to put in paper bags and counting them.
