7th December 2023

Christmas is a fun and exciting (but expensive) time of year. There are parties which require new outfits, trips to see pantomimes, visits to Santa and, of course, beautifully decorated trees with presents piled underneath.

The reality, however, is that 25% of children in Inverclyde are living in poverty, with Greenock named the most impoverished town in Scotland, according to the April 2023 Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD). For these children and their families, Christmas is a very different experience.

For the last decade, Junior School have been supporting Children in Poverty Inverclyde's Christmas Gift Appeal to ensure that as many children as possible wake up to at least one present to open on Christmas Morning.

We were delighted to be joined this morning by Mr Pat Burke, Chairman of Children in Poverty Inverclyde, who congratulated the children in the Junior School Charities Committee for their amazing hard work.

Thanks to the committee and the support of our Junior School families, 101 gifts will be delivered to Children in Poverty Inverclyde tomorrow morning.
