Amnesty Refuweegee Report 2023
by Sam W (SVI) and Ruairidh L (SVI)

This year our Amnesty and Equalities group has successfully continued our annual Refuweegee charity campaign. Refuweegee is a charity based in Glasgow, and its main goal is to support the forcibly displaced who have arrived in Glasgow. They do this by providing welcome packs that contain essentials, items such as clothing and food, and toiletries.

Just as we did last year, this year’s campaign within the school was focused on the donation of toiletries (shower items, shaving equipment, toothpaste, etc.) which the centre often runs out of. As a Silver Rights Respecting School, we want to play an active role in ensuring all children have access to Article 6 of the UNCRC - the right to life, survival, and development. Article 22 also states that all refugee children must be cared for by the government, but sadly this does not always happen. This is where the amazing work of Selina and her team at Refuweegee comes in!

The entire group would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated to this campaign. We have been overwhelmed by the number of items donated this month and on 14th December the group took our donations to the Refuweegee Centre to be sorted.
