The Rector welcomes pupils back for a new term...

Welcome back!  We hope you have had a happy and relaxing Christmas holiday, enjoying time with your family and friends.  For those of you in SV and SVI, we hope that you have used the opportunity to consolidate all the work completed last term and made a good start on your revision and preparation for the prelims.

The 6th of January is the Feast of the Epiphany, the day on which many Christians celebrate the Three Kings’ arrival at the stable in Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus.  You will remember that they came carrying gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh and in many countries this morning, including Spain children will have woken up excitedly waiting to see what gifts the Three Kings have delivered to them overnight.

For us, today marks the end of Christmas and the beginning of a new term, a new year and indeed a new decade.  According to the Bible, the Kings were guided to Bethlehem by a star shining brightly in the sky and I wonder what is guiding you as you start this new year?  It is worth reminding ourselves of our School Values:

  • integrity by which we mean honesty and respect for yourself and others

  • compassion which means kindness and understanding

  • aspiration which means trying to be the best that you can be

With these as our guiding principles, I am confident that we can all look forward to a successful and rewarding year and the future beyond.
