Sophie P (S3) and Russell M (S4) scoop top accolades at national awards...

At the recent Scottish Technology Teachers Association awards ceremony two St Columba’s pupils scooped national awards and received recognition for being the top students in the country across two categories.

Up against stiff competition from schools across Scotland, Sophie P (S3) won in the ‘Broad General Education’ category with her clock model and Harry Potter inspired Desktop Publishing graphics.

Russell M (S4) won in the ‘Computer Aided Graphics and Manufacturing’ category with his F1 racing car model which was 3D printed within the department.

Both pupils had their work displayed for all Technology teachers in Scotland to view. Their work will now take pride of place within the department for all staff, pupils and visitors to see. Both pupils received certificates and trophies together with software and cash prizes.

The pupils put in a lot of effort in class, during lunchtimes and after school to complete their entries. The school are immensely proud of both their achievements.

The success of Russell and Sophie builds on two awards the school won last year in the same competition. For a school of St Columba’s size to be competing against schools throughout Scotland and to achieve two national awards is a fantastic achievement. This reflects on the quality of the teaching and learning from the staff that goes on and in the enthusiasm of the pupils in the department.

The department is now looking forward to next year’s competitions with great interest.
