Former Pupil, Isla M, has been awarded the Gold MLSA by the Royal Conservatoire Scotland.

We are delighted to share the news that St Columba’s former pupil, Isla Macpherson, has successfully gained her Gold Music Leaders Scotland Award, from the exam board at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The Gold MLSA gives Isla an equivalent SCQF level 7, and focuses on three main areas of study , performance , leadership and engagement with professional musicians.

In June Isla submitted a wide range of evidence to RCS to show what she had achieved throughout the year. Understandably, collating together examples of her work and performances was a challenge in itself after spending a majority of this time in lockdown. The evidence included weekly log books of lesson planning and practise, recordings of 2 musical pieces, references from various professionals, and a presentation to demonstrate her leadership skills.

Isla had to prove her leadership skills by planning rehearsals, finding appropriate resources, and guiding a full ensemble. Also proving how well she could critically reflect on individual preparation while performing with many professional musicians.

Isla was the only pupil from an Independent school to present for this award and be successful, she is also the first pupil in St Columba's history to be awarded the Gold MLSA. We hear that Isla’s work was of such a high standard that it is to be used as an exemplary submission for the coming years. We wish Isla the best of luck in her future endeavours and many congratulations on this fantastic achievement.
