The SVI Experience

On the 14th of September our SVI pupils participated in a team-building day and enjoyed a range of challenging (and hilarious!) activities.

Hosted by our new Depute Rector (Pastoral), Ms Fulton, pupils undertook a range of activities and also spent time ruminating on the SVI Experience and the qualities they would like to embody this year.  The year group took time to consider the year ahead, their new responsibilities, and they also gained a better understanding of how important this final year can be mentally, physically, emotionally and academically. As pupils enter SVI they are encouraged to take on more responsibilities within the school, assisting at lunchtime clubs, running house activities and understanding that they are role models for the younger pupils - all of which foster teamwork, a sense of ownership and, ultimately, a good deal of satisfaction.

The team-building day also included some amusing tasks, such as creating the tallest structure possible from marshmallows and spaghetti and a garment construction task. While the garments were only made from old newspaper, the results were delightful and during the fashion show Mrs Reilly commented on some particularly skillful darting to a skirt modelled by one of the boys. Another male model, who shall remain nameless, sported a pinafore style mini dress complete with corsages made of political leaders' faces. Were SVI making a political statement? Who knows, but they were certainly making a fashion one.

It was delightful to hear so much laughter from the Main Hall and Heads of House and Ms Fulton certainly enjoyed working with this year's SVI.  A busy but satisfying day certainly brought the year group together. Thanks again to Ms Fulton for organising and facilitating.
