At St Columba's, this week we are joining Dyslexia Scotland in supporting Dyslexia Awareness Week.

This year Dyslexia Scotland have themed their awareness week with the title ‘Unlocking Potential’.  To tie in with coming out of lockdown, this title reflects all the amazing and sometimes unexpected ways that children and adults have adapted to our ‘new normal’, and not to mention how parents, teachers have been resilient in providing support, despite the difficult circumstances.

Throughout the week there will be a number of events happening, with presentations from pupils, assemblies, and evening talks. Through our social media channels we also hope to share a number of resources and highlight some of the brilliant support that is offered within school.

Dyslexia Scotland are also using this week to raise awareness of their current fundraising campaign. During lockdown Dyslexia Scotland were able to divert Scottish Government funding to pay for tutoring for children whose parents had been financially affected by coronavirus.  To date they have been able to pay for over 100 hours of tutoring for children with dyslexia, by approved tutors. For Dyslexia Awareness Week 2020 Dyslexia Scotland would like to ask supporters to support the 'One in a Hundred' campaign, helping to fund a further 100 hours of tutoring for children, young people and adults with dyslexia who may not be able to pay for it. More information about the campaign can be found via Just Giving.

Dyslexia Awareness Scotland will also be using #DAWScot20 on social media throughout the week. By following the hashtag you can interact with the resources that they will be sharing and read some of the stories they will be sharing.
