Pupils Meet Their Olympic Hero
During the Easter break Mosa and Hamza Al Bedri, who are members of the S.J.C.A. Judo club, had the chance to meet and practice with Olympic Judo Silver Medallist, Gemma Gibbons, at the Emirates Stadium.
Following a warm-up, Gemma showed the participants the judo move which she used to win her silver medal, called “Harai Ogoshi.” which is Japanese for a sweeping hip throw. Gemma and her partner Euan Barton, also a judo Olympian, moved around the mat, guiding the young athletes and advising them on their technique. Afterwards they did some randori, practice fighting and Mosa was very pleased to win all his matches. The session ended with a Q&A and a photograph of Gemma and Euan with the club members. Mosa was thrilled to be allowed to wear Gemma's silver medal for the photo. He said, "I was so privileged to have met the olympic silver medallist. It was a once in a life time opportunity and a fantastic day. It has inspired me to work even harder at judo, in the hope that I may one day try out for the Olympic team."
