St Columba’s Musicians Take The Inverclyde Music Festival by Storm

The Inverclyde Music Festival kicked off last week with a large number of St Columba’s young musicians taking centre stage.

The Festival has recognised our pupils for their talents and live performances which is testament to their hard work and commitment. It also recognises the significant contribution of the staff and instructors in our Music Department.

  • Honor M (J5) who was awarded first place in the Primary Woodwind Solo Class with a score of 87, and to Kirsty S (Trans) who was 2nd in the same class.
  • Congratulations to Sophie R and Erin C (both Senior II) who beat off stiff competition to take first and second places respectively in the Grade 3-4 Woodwind class. Well done to both girls and to their teacher, Mrs Barron.
  • Honor M (J5) clarinet, achieved first in Primary Woodwind Solos, with a score of 87.
  • Calum H (SII) came 2nd in the 18 and Under Woodwind Grade 7 & 8 class, beating stiff competition from much older pupils.
  • Emily B (SII) who won her section in the 14 and Under Solo Singing class for Girls. Emily will also be awarded the Agnes Sinclair Trophy for winning the overall class. Well done to Emily and her singing teacher Mrs. Allan.
  • Antara R (Trans) who came 2nd in the Solo Singing Girls Primary 7 and Under class.
  • Briony C (J5) who won her piano class, 11 years and under.
  • Erin C (SII) and Sophie R (SII) who were second in the 13 and under piano duet class
  • Briony C (J5) and Honor M (J5) who won the 11 and under piano duet class.
  • Congratulations also go to the Orchestra who were pipped at the post into second place in the School Orchestra/ Band Class with their rendition of The Three Minute Nutcracker and Pirates of the Caribbean. Pupils range in age from Transitus to Senior VI.
  • Congratulations to our woodwind trio, Emily B, Callum H and Sasha C all SII who came first in the 18 and Under Woodwind Class.
  • Sasha Charter (SII) also came 1st in the 18 and Under Woodwind Grade 5 & 6 class with a score of 88 and distinction.
  • Congratulations also to the Senior Flute Ensemble who came second in the same class. Grace S (SVI), Emily P (SVI), Sarah S (SVI), Molly C(SIII), Maggie L(SIV) and Anjali R(SIII)
  • Congratulations to our Junior Flute Ensemble, conducted by Ms Chisholm, who were awarded second in class and to our Clarinet Choir who were awarded first place in the same class Wind Ensembles 15 Years and Under.
  • Congratulations to Alexandra M (SII) who won the 14 and Under Vocal Solo class and also the 13 and Under Piano Duet with her duet partner Kirsty H (SII).
  • Well done also to Sophie R and Erin C (both S2) who were placed second in the same class.
  • Eve M (J6), 1st place for P6 and under Solo Verse.
  • Ava H (J6), 1st place for P7 and under Scots Verse. Eve M 2nd place in same category 
  • Ella M (J4), 2nd place in p4 and under Solo Verse.
  • Matthew H and Gregor C (both S3) came 1st in the piano duet (15yrs & under)class.
  • Chloe D (J6) came first in class vocal solo- girls- primary 6 and under. Overall winner of Cecilia Campbell memorial trophy.
  • Cara EM(SIV) and Hannah M (SIV) First in Class, Vocal Duet, 16 years and under.
  • Cara, Second in Class, Vocal Solo, songs from the shows and light opera, 16 years and under.

  • Hilary EM (SIV) and Cara, First in Class, String Duet, 15 years and under.

  • Hilary, Cara and Poppy (all SIV) First in Class, Cello Trio, 15 years and unde

  • Hilary and Maggie, First in Class, Instrumental Duet, 15 years and under.

  • Cara, Second in Class, Vocal Solo Scots song, 16 years and under.

  • Cara, Second in Class, Vocal Solo Boy and Girls, 16 years and under.

  • Kirsty H (SII) first in both her piano performances and first in duet with Alexandra M (SII)

  • Tara H (J6) second in solo singing and second in piano duet with Maya S (J6)

  • Isla T (SVI) Flora McMahon (SIV) First in Class duet singing & First in Class for Trio Singing with Eilidh P (SIV)
